Brown Trout - Elusive Gold
To grow up lakeside is to inherit a lifelong obsession with what moves beneath the surface. I am an avid, lifelong fisherman born into a family with roots deeply tangled in fishing. When I was very young, our home sat right on the shores of Connecticut's Candlewood Lake, home to a legendary, highly elusive brown trout. They weren't plentiful. They were ghosts. The trout of Candlewood grew to massive, formidable sizes by being incredibly smart, surviving season after season in the deep, shadow-filled structures. But when you did manage to bring one to the surface, you were looking at a living masterwork. They gleamed with a heavy, butter-gold and copper brilliance, covered in vivid, black spots that looked hand-painted by the creator himself. I wanted to capture that precise moment of underwater mystery. This original piece is a tribute to my family's heritage and the wild, golden ghosts of my youth. Hand-painted with the first-hand knowledge that only comes from a lifetime on the water, it's built for anyone who knows the patience it takes to fool a truly great fish.
